As part of Barnardo’s ongoing commitment to protecting Children’s Rights and amplifying the Voice of the Child, Barnardo’s has developed an ambitious strategy to further support and facilitate young people sharing their voices and influencing change.
In May 2019, EiA designed and delivered a two day national programme which focused on employability skills and personal development for the young people who they support.
Young people from Barnardo’s offices from across the country got their first opportunity to be part of the national employability and voice programme.
A number of ideas were developed to improve the support provided to young people by Barnardo’s.
Excellent feedback was received from participants and Barnardo’s staff on the impact of the programme.
Some of our young people have never been out of Glasgow and to see them out of their comfort zone was great. They have gained a lot of confidence from just travelling, so I think going to other cities for events is good for the young people.
The final presentation that the young people delivered was very satisfying to watch. The courage they demonstrated was just amazing. Some young people at the start of the programme found it difficult to introduce themselves to the group – never mind deliver a presentation with the skills they’d just been taught.
The programme taught me to always think positively about your future.
I learnt to never give up and believe in yourself.
It was good to grow with other people and I now feel capable of doing anything.
